Celebrating 250 Years of Freedom and a New Era of Freedom in Breast Health

As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, DCIS 411 celebrates another kind of freedom: the freedom for every woman to make informed choices about her breast health. From informed consent and active monitoring to safe and innovative imaging technologies, a new era of choice is emerging. Join us as we honor the global sisterhood of women who are helping redefine breast health through knowledge, compassion, and the courage to choose.

From DCIS 411 | July 4, 2026

Two hundred and fifty years ago, a bold declaration changed the course of history. Today, we honor the freedoms generations have fought for and passed on: the freedom to speak, to question, to dream, to travel, to build and above all, the freedom to choose.

At DCIS 411, freedom has always been the heart of our mission: the freedom to seek knowledge, ask difficult questions, challenge outdated assumptions, and make informed decisions about your body, your screening, your treatment, and your future.

As fireworks light the sky, we celebrate not only America’s enduring promise of liberty but a growing movement transforming breast health around the world.

Let freedom ring. 🇺🇸🔔

Freedom Begins with Informed Consent

For more than sixteen years, DCIS 411 has stood on one unwavering belief: women deserve facts, not fear.

Freedom begins with information, the full picture of a DCIS diagnosis, not just the standard script. Overdiagnosis and overtreatment. Risk assessment and biomarker testing. Active monitoring. Nutrition and lifestyle.

Science increasingly supports informed choice. The COMET trial found that women who chose active monitoring had better outcomes than those who underwent immediate surgery. The international PRECISION consortium found that when women received balanced information and a genuine choice, 76% chose active surveillance.

Think about that. When women are fully informed, many choose a different path than the one first offered.

Informed consent is not a formality. It is the foundation of ethical healthcare.

No fear. No pressure. No one-size-fits-all. Just knowledge, options, and trust in women.

Thank You, Women

To every woman who asked for the evidence, sought a second opinion, requested more time, or said “I’d like to understand all of my options first,”  thank you.

Your questions have changed medicine. Your courage to speak up in exam rooms, in support groups, in research studies, and in petitions is why trials like COMET exist, why “watchful waiting” is becoming a respected choice, and why new imaging centers are opening their doors. Every question asked makes the path clearer for the woman who comes next.

You are the movement.

A Global Sisterhood United by Freedom

Since DCIS 411 began, almost 300,00 visitors from more than 190 countries and territories have found their way to our website, from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia to Nigeria, Ukraine, Iceland, Fiji, and Bhutan. Nearly every corner of the globe.

The sisterhood across our Facebook communities includes nearly 10,000 women worldwide.  These are not just numbers. These are genuine connections: real friendships, late-night reassurance, shared research, celebrated milestones, and hands held (virtually and truly) through diagnosis, decisions, and beyond.

To every one of you, in every time zone, every language, every corner of this beautiful world – thank you. Thank you for your courage, your questions, your stories, your emails, your comments, your shares, and your sisterhood. You have turned a personal journey into a global movement.

Standing Together in Solidarity

On this historic anniversary, we stand with women everywhere for:

  • Freedom of Choice in screening, monitoring, and treatment.
  • Freedom of Information with honest disclosure of benefits, risks, and alternatives.
  • Freedom from Fear by replacing panic with knowledge, and pressure with partnership.
  • Freedom for Better Health with safe, comfortable, innovative imaging and individualized care.

Two hundred and fifty years ago, America’s founders declared liberty an unalienable right. We believe informed choice in healthcare reflects that same enduring principle.

The Movement Continues

Keep asking questions. Keep sharing what you learn. Keep supporting the innovators and advocates expanding women’s choices. Keep lifting up the woman beside you, next door, or halfway around the world.

Happy 250th Anniversary, America! May liberty inspire the world, may truth replace fear, and may every woman, everywhere, have the freedom to choose her own path to clarity and health.

Let freedom ring. Let information flow. Let women choose. 🇺🇸🔔🌎

With gratitude, light, and love,

The DCIS 411 Team
