All is Good: Ultrasound Shows Only Scar Tissue

Carlsbad 1/2 Marathon – Jan 2011

All is good. Due to lumpy tissue in my breast in the location of the incision where 3 surgeries took place, I agreed to have an ultrasound check it out.  After enduring a lecture on why mammograms are the gold standard, I stood my ground and said NO to a mammogram. As I expected, the ultrasound showed only scar tissue. All is good. 🙂

About Donna Pinto

I am originally from New Jersey and moved to Los Angeles with my family at age 12. After graduating from San Diego State University with a BA in Journalism, I had a short-stint in magazine advertising sales before landing my "dream job" with Club Med. For two years I worked at resorts in Mexico, The Bahamas, The Dominican Republic and Colorado. My husband Glenn & I met in Ixtapa, Mexico and we embarked on a two year honeymoon around the world. This was also a research project for a book we wrote called "When The Travel Bug Bites: Creative Ways to Earn, Save and Stay Abroad." I am also the author of a quote book for new graduates -- "Cheatnotes on Life: Lessons From The Classroom of Life." In 1997, we settled in San Diego and I was blessed to work part-time from home for non-profit organizations while raising our two boys. In 2010, a DCIS diagnosis changed my life. DCIS 411 is the culmination of my on-going journey and discoveries.

Great news! I’m up for my first year mammogram and if all is clear, I’ve decided no more either. I feel like I need to have the 1 year done for my peace of mind. Doesn’t make total sense but I need to hear the all clear at least once. I had a new type of full body thermography (being used in Germany) done a few weeks ago to use as a baseline with this last mammo. From then on out I’ll be using that and sonograms only. I’m prepared for the lecture that will ensue when she finds out I went ahead with it, since she poo-pooed it away when I went in for my 6 month. Ridiculous isn’t it? The way they talk to us like we’re stupid.

Once again, I’m glad to have a spot to talk about these alternative treatments where people are open minded.
