Your donation fuels a mission grounded in research and aligned with the latest scientific understanding of Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS). DCIS 411 was created to address a growing and urgent gap in women’s health education, informed consent, safe breast screening access, and patient support.

Each year, more than 60,000 women in the US are diagnosed with DCIS. Since the widespread adoption of mammography screening, DCIS diagnoses have increased by 1,683%, while rates of aggressive treatment, including double mastectomies, have more than doubled, yet late-stage cancers and breast cancer deaths have remained stable — raising urgent concerns about overdiagnosis, overtreatment, and informed decision-making. Women facing a DCIS diagnosis are often left frightened, overwhelmed, and under-informed about their options, including the reality that their risk of invasive breast cancer may be comparable to that of the general population.

At the same time, women are rarely educated on the limitations of conventional breast screening. Standard mammography presents important concerns, including radiation exposure, painful compression, reduced sensitivity in dense breast tissue, and high false-positive rates that can lead to unnecessary biopsies, anxiety, and overtreatment. Approximately 40% of women have dense breasts, making cancer detection more difficult and increasing the likelihood of missed findings or unclear results.

Despite growing interest in safer and more personalized breast screening, many women remain unaware of or unable to access lower-risk, radiation-free options such as QT Imaging and ABUS (Automated Breast Ultrasound). These technologies offer important benefits for women with dense breasts and for those seeking long-term, safe monitoring. Cost, lack of awareness, insurance barriers, and limited provider education continue to prevent equitable access, particularly for uninsured, underinsured, and medically underserved women.
