My name is Desiree Basila. We have been in touch before regarding our shared commitment to creating a truer understanding of DCIS and it’s treatment. I am working with my surgeon, Dr. Shelley Hwang of Duke (formerly at UCSF) who is writing a grant to compare outcomes of those who choose active surveillance and those who do surgery. She is trying to establish whether less aggressive care is a viable option for DCIS. We very much need the input of patients who have chosen active surveillance. There will be 6 teleconferences on the following dates with Dr. Hwang and other patient advocates. It is not necessary to participate in all of them. There will also be an opportunity to email ideas to Dr. Hwang (I will coordinate this). I am hoping you will be interested in joining us and getting the word out to others who have chosen AS. Please feel free to call me at 415 283 9319 for more info. I will also forward details of the proposed study and questions we are discussing at the teleconferences to
